Nanquan
Nanquan is a striking art originating in China and belonging to the broader family of Chinese martial arts. Its training focus centers on the southern fist tradition, which is characterized by low, stable stances and an emphasis on powerful hand techniques. Practitioners develop strength and rootedness through these foundational elements, working to generate force from close range while maintaining a solid base.
As a striking art, Nanquan training generally involves drilling stand-up offensive and defensive techniques, conditioning the body to execute hand work with power and control, and building the physical attributes needed to sustain low stances over time. Practitioners typically train forms and partner drills that reinforce the core principles of the style, developing coordination, timing, and body mechanics suited to its approach.
